Embassies and consulates also provide other services to American residents traveling or residing in a foreign country. They are also responsible for issuing visas to foreign nationals who wish to visit, study, or work in the United States.
The U.S. Embassy in India is located in New Delhi. In addition to the Embassy, there are several U.S. consulates in India, located in Hyderabad, Chennai (Madras), Kolkata (Calcutta), and Mumbai (Bombay).
Although you can find a lot of relevant information on the official website of the U.S. Embassy and consulates in India, you may find yourself in need of further information. If you do, don’t hesitate to contact a top-rated Immigration Attorney Atlanta at Manji Law.

Mumbai US Consulate Visa Appointment
All individuals who want to enter the U.S. have to obtain a visa. Those who want to travel to the United States to work, study, travel, or participate in an exchange program, will have to obtain nonimmigrant visas.
A nonimmigrant visa applicant has to prove to the U.S. consular officer that they have strong ties to their home country and that they will return there, after their temporary stay in the United States. Visa applicants are also required to appear in person at some of the Visa Application Centers (VAC) and attend the visa interview at the U.S. Embassy or consulates. The U.S. Embassy and consulates in India are now open for visa interviews.
Those who want to apply for a U.S. immigrant visa have to be sponsored by a lawful permanent resident or a U.S. citizen. The process begins when a sponsor files a petition on behalf of the foreign citizen with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). That petition has to be approved before applying for an immigrant visa. You can also be eligible to petition for an immigrant visa if you have been selected in the Diversity Visa Lottery. Once the USCIS has approved the petition, you have to follow further instructions given to you.
If you are a foreign professional in a certain occupation or have particular specialty skills to work in the United States, you will need to apply for an H1B visa. If you need additional information, reach out to experienced H1B immigration lawyer Jameel Manji.

When Did the US Consulate Mumbai Reopen?
As of June 2021, the U.S. Consulate in Mumbai has reopened appointments for all immigrant visas and services, including tourist visas. The consulate will contact those whose appointments were canceled in chronological order and instruct them on how to proceed with their cases. Submission and scheduling routine cases through the National Visa Center are also resumed.
New appointments can also be made through their website. However, visa applicants should make sure they will be able to travel to a Visa Application Center (VAC) or the Consulate before making an appointment.
